Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kristen and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion from Montclair State University. While earning my degree I took several Art History classes because dress has always been a part of culture. I am intrigued by how fashion from past cultures relates to modern day dress and concepts.
Walking the great halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has always given me great joy and a sense of clarity. Although I have several favorite parts of the museum, I have grown partial to the rooms and pieces of the Eighteenth Century. I ponder and imagine the people who occupied these rooms; what they wore, valued and how they acted.
Throughout time humans have embodied basic instincts and emotions. Dress is a context utilized to express certain ways of being within a culture.
My intention here is to explore a past concept or trend and then raise questions in order to contrast with modern day concepts and culture. Without a sense of culture there can be no context of dress. Without a sense of dress there would be no self-expression of one's values within their culture's context. I am inviting you the reader to explore with me.
