Women of the past and present display a power to create a personal image within their culture relevance.
In 18th century Europe there where many craftsmen who where able to create the perfect staple piece for their clients. The pieces featured a great amount of detail and where crafted to display the clients story. The women who invested in their version of a perfect piece cherished it with great personal value.
Today many women still seek the “perfect piece” for various occasions. By treading up and down shopping malls, rather then seeking out a one of a kind crafted pieces. Then, finding a flaw in the “perfect” piece after the purchase and trashing it is a common practice. Many garments available for purchase will end up getting trashed because they cannot with stand more then a few machine washes.
It is no longer a common practice to have a one of a kind piece cherished and valued. Instead, multiple pieces are purchased and collected. What if modern day shoppers selected quality staple pieces based on personal value? Would the value on personal expression through dress be greater? Is the power of mass production taking the value of self-expression through fashion or providing more options to self-express?
